Painting a Toadstool
Here’s a little watercolour ASMR for you to enjoy!
While this isn’t quite a tutorial, hopefully you will find it relaxing as well as an interesting insight into my process of painting in a more careful and detailed way.
Main Techniques Used:
Wet on wet paint application for the background
Wet on dry for the details
Glazing for building up layers of colour carefully
Supplies:
Fabriano Studio Watercolour Paper in Hot Press
Winsor & Newton Professional, Daniel Smith & La Sirena watercolours*
Winsor & Newton White gouache for the spots (I ended up giving up painting around the spots halfway through)
Da Vinci Casaneo Mop Brush for the background - size 2
Princeton & Co Round Brush synthetic 4950R for the toadstool - size 6
*A little note about the paints I used:
My personal palette is so varied from adding new colours over the years. You absolutely do not need to have paints from these specific lines in order to create your own version of a toadstool.
Here are the colours I recommend based on what I used:
alizarin crimson
Naples yellow
Payne’s grey
burnt Sienna
Perylene green
Thank you so much for reading! Happy painting!
